OLPC - an initiative worth mentioning
Go to this website and read the article on One Laptop Per Child project by Negroponte. This is an education project and not a PC project. It's about education.

Hopefully this article will awaken and sensitise you to the plight of many around the world withoout the means to access proper education.
I like the part that says "Teaching is only one way to learn". Put a laptop and wireless connection into the hands of children in third world economies, and you have given them a tool out of their poverty trap.
